Obama Deserves The World Title: How Politics Mirrors Wrestling

In one of my recent articles I paralleled people’s ignorance of pro wrestling with the ignorance of lots of other industries, such as talk shows, reality TV, boxing and MMA, soccer, music and even the news, and explained that pretty much everything has elements of “fakeness” and “working”, manipulation and pulling the wool over our eyes. There is always somebody somewhere dictating what we see, hear and consume, and more often than not this is manipulated to create the most interest and therefore the most money. Who wants to watch Big Brother with no perceived conflict between housemates?

Where pro wrestling is simple entertainment and the “Hulkamania” from the 80s was harmless (although a little nauseating), something that is definitely not harmless is the Barackamania the world is experiencing now. We can suspend our disbelief and get wrapped up in the moment when Vince McMahon is trying to sell tickets to a wrestling event, but it’s extremely dangerous to suspend our disbelief and get wrapped up in an election. Just like a wrestler, Obama is acting and working his audience, wowing us with his mic work and the spectacle of his stage. His inauguration was like the set for Wrestlemania! Essentially Obama is a face (good guy) and the heels are whoever the US opposes. Instead of the elite McMahon family dictating what the wrestlers do and say we have the elite bankers and corporations meeting Obama. Instead of WWE.com covering the storylines we have Fox News, and for the small portion of the audience who want the backstage truth we replace Dave Meltzer’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter and Wade Keller’s PWTorch with Alex Jones’ Infowars and Paul Jay’s Real News Network. The problem here is that we are dealing with the well-being of the entire world, not 60 or so pro wrestlers.

George Bush started out as a face but due to his extended push on top fans began to get sick of seeing him and his weaknesses became exposed. He often fumbled on the mic and lacked charisma, causing resentment among fans who knew he lacked real talent. Although there were some that got wrapped up in his patriotism and fell victim to the marketing of his character, it became clear that a new superstar was needed to keep everyone believing. Enter Barack Obama, a star with the proverbial “it” factor that can talk the talk, walk the walk and whom looks good doing so. “Do you smell what Barack is cooking?” In wrestling terms Obama is that once in a decade mega star that causes a boom in popularity, much like Steve Austin or The Rock during WWE’s Attitude Era, or Hulk Hogan the generation before. Obama has won over the public who now blindly hang on his every word; and racism aside, being black is cool. But just like Hulk Hogan, can we really believe what he’s saying?

“Say your prayers and take your vitamins”
“We will pull our troops out of Iraq”

The first phrase was continually rammed down our throats during the 80s when Hogan represented all that was good about America. He’d fight the evil foreigners like the Sheik and wave his flag; however as documentary “Bigger Stronger Faster” pointed out, it was all a sham and Hogan’s “24 inch pythons” were actually the result of steroids, and this clean pure “America the great” ideology that seeped through in action films and sporting events was little more than myth. The world is full of cheaters; who do children look up to?

Which one is my girlfriend and which is my daughter brotherrr?

In recent years Hogan’s decent from real American Hero to sickening TMZ hound isn’t something that has just sprung on us, but is a result of new media. Would our perception of Hogan have been the same if during the 80s we had reality TV, Youtube and Myspace? Hogan has been exposed through these new mediums and is continually putting his foot in his mouth and revealing the deep rooted fame hungry money-blinded ignorance of his family. They just don’t get what real life is.

They should have just turned me heel

Although he still may be “over” with the uneducated masses that fall in line when his music hits and he flexes those muscles “brotherrr” us children of the internet age can see through the facade and are sick of what he stands for.

In the same vein of a stereotypical good guy pro wrestler, Barrack Obama says all the right things, smiles, kisses babies and portrays an image that the masses can get behind, but there’s a minority that see through his facade and know that deep down it’s all an act to some degree.

Barackamania running wild

Politics is fake.

Look at the bare bone facts about an election. Candidates are on a mission to win over their audience, simple as that. It’s a popularity contest. Those who can cut the best promo and tell the best story get the most votes. Just like wrestling. It has less to do with their policies and more to do with how they get across their points. And if things look bleak or there’s a tough crowd, take the old Hacksaw Jim Duggan route. “USA…USA..USA”. No American is going to oppose somebody that loves America, that would make you a terrorist of something. And also remember money funds a campaign from fliers to media air time. There’s a reason why WWE with its enormous bankroll swamps TNA and ROH. Now hypothetically if you were a wealthy oil baron that might benefit from the war in Iraq then you might just be inclined to help fund a presidential campaign that supported the war wouldn’t you?

Obama has a stylist, a publicist, people that help write speeches, probably some kind of voice coach; basically a whole entourage of people who’s job it is to make him look good. So when everything he does and says is carefully crafted by people with years of experience in mass manipulation, what exactly are we supposed to believe? His policies? Like Hulk Hogan, he is essentially full of lies.

One of his main promises which separated him from the Bush Administration was to bring the boys home and pull the troops out of Iraq, firstly outright, then within 16 months, but after becoming President this point that won him so many supporters has been thrown out. I guess because he’s so cool it doesn’t matter if he’s a liar. People still buy Chris Brown’s music even though he beat the shit out of his girlfriend. There are still people that think Chris Benoit should be a respected figure in wrestling’s history despite murdering his wife and son. It doesn’t matter, Obama is black, that means he’s hip and stuff. Only white people are pompous liars.

“Where did we get this sense that just because we have a black man as President everything is going to be OK…everything is NOT going to be OK.”
[Professor Griff of rap group Public Enemy].

Perhaps until the mid 90s it was rare for the average pro wrestling fan to talk about bookers, wrestling writers and the creative side of the product. Booking meetings were top secret and who was going to win and lose, drop the belt or where a storyline was going, was only the knowledge of the higher ups in WWE and WCW. With the internet, insider journalists that look at wrestling from a critical and business standpoint as opposed to pretending it’s real, have caused major headaches within the industry. Now it is not uncommon to have a major storyline leak and filter through the web of sources and internet sites that cover wrestling, until a good portion of the audience know what is going to happen before it airs on TV or PPV. Whereas this is simply interesting to know as a fan and may uncover some deeper rooted political agendas in the companies, at the end of the day it’s still entertainment, not life or death.

However, did you know that once a year over a hundred of the world’s most powerful politicians, bankers and corporate figures illegally attend a secret meeting where they reportedly book the world as if they were booking a wrestling show? They discuss monetary policy, war and even who they want to groom as the next world leaders? This is called the Bilderberg Conference and is only recently getting exposure from essentially the “dirt sheets” of the world.

The media is starting to take notice, but the controllers are the ones at the meeting

Just take a moment to breath and digest this information. This isn’t Vince and co grooming the next world champion and being exposed by the sheets like the Observer, but the world’s richest and most powerful people grooming the next world leaders and world polices being exposed by independent news reporters and activists! Bill Clinton attended the 1991 meeting before becoming president and Obama and Hilary’s much hyped 2008 meeting, was a myth, as they were in fact walking distance from the site of Bilderberg 2008. How convenient.

People who have attended Bilderberg include billionaire banker David Rockefeller, Rupert Murdoch (owner of News Corp), the Bush family, Tony Blair and advisers to UK Prime Minister Gordon Brown, royalty, those from the federal reserve bank, other world bankers, scientists, politicians, Microsoft employees, and so on. Even the most closed minded people can see this is like something out of the Sopranos with the top Mafia bosses meeting to discuss how they can remain dominant and meet their money hungry needs.

All of these people at Bilderberg have intertwining interests, unfathomable power and the control over the majority of the world’s money and media. I highly doubt they are drinking tea and playing golf. Some claim with backed up sources that they decide Presidents and Prime Ministers beforehand, fund political campaigns, control what we read and watch, create wars, alter monetary policy and are slowly moving towards Globalization, one world government and currency under the control of these few. It annoys me that John Cena is world champion, it makes me feel scared and trapped in my own world to think that the real government and government policies in the UK and US are quite probably influenced more by a few elite bankers than any legitimate election from the people.

Whether you are one of those that will shun all of this for a conspiracy theory or are one of those that are firmly behind the ideas such as 9/11 being allowed to happen, or simply couldn’t give a crap about your freedom and rights, there are millions of unanswered questions that the people in charge are not answering, and attending secret meetings doesn’t instill trust in people during a time of confusion and economic bleakness. With the rise of the internet, no longer is the media controlled by just a few. We all have a voice and we should all do our own research and fact checking before we blindly start jumping on Barackamania.

We’ve exposed pro wrestling and can enjoy it on a new level, it’s time to expose politics. Pro wrestling is supposed to be sporting entertainment, democratic governments are supposed to be for the people.
