Without a democratic vote or proper public consultation, the unelected EU Superstate and alarmist Green Lobby have dictated a ban on traditional 60 watt incandescent light bulbs, going in to effect across Europe today. After the last stocks run out, customers will be forced to purchase low-energy Compact Fluorescent Lamps (CFLs), a significantly dimmer design of light bulb that will strain those with poor vision, and pose serious health and environmental issues.

In an effort to combat what the Green lobby call deadly man made climate change, bans began in 2009 when the 100 watt bulbs were phased out. Incrementally we then saw the demise of the 75W bulb, and next year the Government will even bow down to a ban on 40W and 25W bulbs, leaving the more expensive CFLs as the only option.

According to the International Energy Agency, set up by globalist war criminal Henry Kissinger in 1973, the transition to low-energy light bulbs could prevent 16 billion tonnes of carbon from being added to the world’s atmosphere over the next 25 years. [1] However skeptics raise the interesting point that out of all sources of CO2 in the atmosphere, human activity makes up approximately 3-percent of it, while factoring in the entire greenhouse gas process, we only contribute 0.28-perecent. [2]

A small reduction of our measly contribution seems futile. But like everything else in modern day politics, the people aren’t allowed an opinion.

One of the major concerns surrounding the energy saving bulbs, is believe it or not an environmental one. They contain the toxic compound mercury, which can leak if the bulb is damaged or during disposal. Official advice from the UK’s Department of Environment warns that if a low-energy bulb is smashed, the room needs to be vacated for at least 15 minutes and the remains should only be handled with plastic gloves. Instead of throwing it away it should be taken to the local council’s municipal recycling facility. [3]

And it’s not just mercury that’s the problem. A study conducted by Peter Braun at Berlin Germany’s Alab Laboratory found the bulbs contain poisonous cancer causing carcinogens that should be kept “as far away as possible from the human environment.”

When switched on these carcinogens (including phenol, naphthalene and styrene) are released in to the atmosphere causing an electrical smog that “should not be used in unventilated areas and definitely not in the proximity of the head.” [4]

Symptoms are already becoming apparent. The Migraine Action Association (MAA) reports that fluorescent bulbs are causing severe migraines, bringing on pre-epeleptic sickness and worsening auto-immune deceases like Lupus. [5]

At forefront fighting this abuse of power by the EU is UKIP’s Godfrey Bloom. He told Public Service Europe:
When you get to my age one of the last bedroom pleasures left is a good read. The demise of the 100 and 60 watt bulb has sadly cut off this remaining indulgence. With older peoples’ eyesight, light is a vital ingredient to be able to see what you are doing.

It is simply not possible to read by the light of the new super green bulb inflicted on us by the gnomes of Brussels. That would assume we could afford them, their price has all but doubled in the last three years.

Indeed, the transition to Green is costing the general public a fortune as the Government forces the people to pick up the tab rather than the energy companies and suppliers. It is no different with low energy bulbs. Disposing of one bin full costs about £650 each, which in turn means higher taxes. [6], and as MEP Bloom noted, the price of the green bulbs is soaring.

The Telegraph reports:
The price of a Philips 11-watt CFL at Argos has risen from £3.99 in September 2009 to £4.99 last week, a rise of 25 per cent. At Sainsbury’s, the cheapest energy-saving bulb is now £2, up from £1.21 for the same bulb two years ago – a rise of 65 per cent.

Manufacturers have blamed recent price rises on the growing cost of raw materials required to make the bulbs, and say there are further increases to come.

We’re living in a sorry state of affairs when unelected lobby groups and bureaucratic super-states, can dictate that we begin using inconvenient and downright dangerous items, in order to reduce a gas that humans have little effect on.
