Prime Minister David Cameron made a frontline visit to the troops out in Afghanistan last week, and gave a typical propagandist speech to rally the soldiers and the public’s dwindling support for the war.
In some tongue tied rhetoric he made the dubious claim that it isn’t “a war of choice, but a war of nessesity…not a war of occupation but a war of obligation”. He then made the point that all the terrorists that “blew-up” the Twin Towers were trained in Afgahnistan by Al Qaeda, which is factually incorrect, not mentioning that most were Saudi Arabian not Afghan.
As noted in the official 9/11 commission report and widely by the media, many of the alleged hijackers learned to fly planes in the United States.
A CBS News article sums up that:
Khalid Almihdhar and Nawaq Alhamzi trained at Sorbi’s Flying Club in San Diego. Hani Hanjour took flight lessons at CRM Airline Training in Scottsdale, Az., in 1996 and 1997; and Mohammed Atta and Marwan Al-Shehhi trained as pilots at Huffman Aviation in Venice, where they lived together, and practiced on Boeing 727 flight simulators at SimCenter in Opalacka, Fla.
Cameron’s notion that they were tained by Al Qeada and that the war removed their training camps is also deceptive. As historically recognised, starting in 1979 and throughout the 80s the CIA (at the behest of CIA Director George Bush Sr., and National Security Advisor Zibiniew Brzenski) financed, through the Pakistani ISI, the training and arming of the Mujahideen fundamentalist Islamists to drain the Soviet army, resulting in a 9 year Vietnam style war. During this time the US worked with Osama Bin Laden under what was called Operation Cyclone. This is when the camps sprung up.
It was impossible for Al Qaeda to train the 9/11 terrorists, because the group didn’t exist until after 9/11 when the media peddled the phrase and extremists adopted it as their own. Until then Al Qaeda was merely a database system used by some of the US trained militants to send each other messages.[1] The term literally means “The Base” or “Database”.
Unfortunately this basic history is rarely mentioned by politcians or repeated by the media. And when our Prime Minster goes on to say “We must be ready for further casualties over the summer months,”[1] we must ask ourselves why we are really out there and why our leaders are lying.
